I saw that first hand with titan gems, they were at 65k+ before the changes, then they dropped and kept droppping fast as more people started to farm them, now they are 25k or lower. It's funny watching how many monks and rangers are running out the door in DOA when it's busy now.
Hopefully GWEN will have something decent to sell. It sucks being poor.

The thing is, with the price of rare items going down, this means the price of your gold is going up. I know that I've been out of the loop for a while, but the way I look at it, is that, sure, you may have less to sell, but it's offset by the fact that rare items are cheaper.
Besides Griffon farming back in the day, I think the most I ever made gold on is farming materials and selling them back to the traders. Not the best kind of income, but if you really think about it, as long as your turn a profit, you will come out ahead in the long run.
I can't wait to get back into GW again when I move, so I can see the effect that HM and loot exemption and all that has had on the game that I was so used to playing.

The scramble for all the new weapons and greens will sell nicely for a while at least, just like with every other campaign.

the people who are affected by this are the uber rich that horde stacks and stacks of them. what percentage of the gw population do u think even has 1 stack let alone multiple stacks of ecto? maybe 2-5 percent? do you think anet or anyone for that matter cares if their wealth decreases a bit? probably not.
the smart ones with loads of ectos have probably already liquidated most of their stock in exchange for diamonds anyways.
why dont we start pointless threads about other rare mats that fluctuate in price too. ok ok, ill start
STEEL - how high can they go
damn. steel used to be like under 200g/each now theyre hovering around 300g/each. thats like a 50% increase in price. like wtf! i feel like my guildwars universe is crashing down on me.

What's overlooked here by several people is that for some the economic fluctuations in game are actually influence how much they enjoy the game. In my guild alone there are several who enjoy the mercantile aspect of GW, such as it is, and are directly influenced by changes in price. Economics in game is just as worthy a topic in Riverside as is any other topic. If we're going to start closing or criticizing threads like this b/c they could appear constantly, let's start doing the same for the eight thousand ZOMG ANet NERFED {insert here}!~!!#@# WETFSFTSF!Q@#$ threads.

imo the price of ectos going down is caused by the loot thing, and nowadays everything is hard hard to sell( plus the trade channal thing). the market is in a chaos atm, and ppl with or without ectos are confused and scared of selling or buying stuff, so ecto droppin in price is a normal phenomena.

Ecto prices are down for a few reasons. Once the price began dropping from the 10K threshold they reached a few months after NF's release, people panicked and started selling their ecto in bulk, lowering the price further. Then lootscaling came along. Basically the update made it impossible to make money farming mobs anymore. So instead, people turned to the easiest farm that was exempt from loot scale... ectos. As well, with the addition of UW scrolls, more people are farming ectos than ever before since they no longer need to wait for favor. Finally, since it's been months since the last game release and there are no new classes planned for GWEN, the general idea is that everyone who wants FoW should have it by now. This means there's no demand for ectos, whereas the market is being flooded by the farmers just trying to make a few K to get by. The price plummets, and will keep plummeting.
Basically until ANET removes lootscale and figures out some way to deal with bots that isn't half-baked, ectos will continue to fall in price, along with greens and other lootscale-exempt items.

The way I see it, threads dealing with the ingame economy can be classified as one of three types:
1) Recent change benefits the poster; thread becomes a platform for gloating/displaying the e-peen.
2) Recent change hurts the poster; thread becomes a whining rant.
3) Thread speculates upon future change.
The only one of the three that might be worthy of further discussion is the last option, but even that is no guarantee. Think of all the threads about GW2 that have been closed over the past few months.

^Agreed. I would only want a thread discussion number three. One that is purely based on strategy, speculation, and utility.

Lockpicks are better, they have a guaranteed bottom and max price, this is a stable good, ecto's basically suck in that respect.

If they only chase away people who refuse to accept they won't make as much in gold as they used to, but will have to accept that there's less gold coming in, I think it's a good idea.

I'd be happy if it kept dropping. I never trade in things that require ecto payments and only one FoW armor half-interests me.

I believe Anet is trying to make items cheaper for the average player while at the same time reducing gold avalablity. The biggest problem here is the exploitation of bots to gather gold and then sell it on the open market for RL money, thus making players rich with out having to grind for it. With so much gold flooding the market, it drives up the prices for everything, because many players are greedy and want a piece of the pie. Well when something like that is done, sooner or later you will have a market crash, because supply will be up, but demand will fall, basic economics.
For me, I would like to except that crash, because I am tired of the price galging BS, no gold item with a non rare skin should sell for 100K+XXectos, inscribable or not. It's the greed of the rich and the criminals who are destroying this game's economy, and the percentage of those players is not 2or3%, more like +33% of the world wide player base, if not more. Otherwise the economy would have not been effected if only 3% of the player base were umber rich.
